Perish Parade Devlog #1

A little more than half a year ago, there was a guy fresh out of graduation eager to prove himself a capable illustrator and artist. He applied for internships and any job position related to the visual arts.
Alas, he never got the courtesy of a single reply from any of them. Was it that his work was too unremarkable or not good enough? Or is being hired just a game of chance? In any case, the guy decided, "Fuck it, I'm going to make my dream JRPG."
Fast forward to the present, the guy STILL doesn't have a real job, and he sure as hell doesn't have his dream JRPG made yet.
But we'll get there! It will be a fun adventure.
So, hi. I'm Antang, and I'm developing this cute little game called Perish Parade with my team. I'm not sure how consistent I'll be with these devlogs, but it could be fun talking about my process and what I've learned. I'd like to spend this night before Demo Day to just air some of it out, but where to start?
...
UI is really hard to do!! Drawing is hard! Where is this bug coming from?!
Hmm, that doesn't feel quite right...
I guess I should talk about the state of the game as of the writing of this blog. I've had to turn off a number of features that I added on a whim like the elemental combo system, the dungeon crawling layer, and the equipment system. It is mostly because I want to make sure the foundations of the game are solid, even if there's nothing much to offer this way. Getting this game to not crash at all or break from a fringe incident was a hard-earned miracle, and I'll need to revisit the broiler plate stuff and the data structure of my game so we can add more content easier.
If I'd kept the aforementioned features, that'd be a lot of stuff to playtest for me, and for you all. That wouldn't be good, would it?
Let's take it one step at a time :) thank you for your support and interest in Perish Parade!
